Sugar comes in different forms. There’s the natural kind in fruits and dairy, and then there’s the added sugar in processed foods. It's the added sugars we need to watch out for, as they contribute to unnecessary calorie intake without providing any nutritional benefits.

Recommended Sugar Intake

The American Heart Association (AHA) sets guidelines for added sugar intake:

  • Men: No more than 9 teaspoons or 36 grams per day.
  • Women: No more than 6 teaspoons or 25 grams per day.
